St. Mark's is both a beautiful, landmark cathedral and a community center, hosting traditional events (such as choral performances and, of course, church services) in its main cathedral space and a variety of other events, including Buddhist meditation group meetings, in its basement, which also functions as a women's shelter during certain hours.
