DESCRIPTION
There's a daily parade of boats of all sizes that move between the Puget Sound and its ship canal to Lake Union. Watch how engineers navigate 100,000 million-dollar yachts, fishing boats and kayaks annually with ease.
Over a footbridge, visitors can catch an up-close look at the fish-ladder viewing room where salmon swim the 18th step of the 21-tier ladder between these bodies of water. June is the best month to go because the adult fish are migrating toward freshwater to spawn while the young salmon - called smolt - are sliding back into Puget Sound's saltwater to fatten up.
