DESCRIPTION

This handsome, brick-and-hardwood establishment is more than the International District's most distinguished tea and coffeehouse — it is, in its way, living history. Located in a hotel that's nearly a century old, the Panama Tea & Coffee House pays modest tribute to every Japanese immigrant and Alaskan fisherman that's spent the night in this workingman's hotel, with photos of the International District in its infancy and artifacts from the time of World War II. (A basement storage room where many Japanese families stored their valuables before being shipped off to interment camps is visible through a glass window placed in the floor.)

But the Panama Tea & Coffee House lives in its present, not its past. With its wireless Internet access, friendly staff, brightly-lit rooms and a solid menu that includes Asian and Indian teas, panini sandwiches and Lavazza espresso, the Panama is the very definition of a 21st century teahouse. Just set up your laptop, order a latte or white tea and drink in the Panama's history and atmosphere.

i had a a blast. The hotel is honest and very inexpensive considering its proximity to great city fun. The 3 foors are very haunted with the 3rd being the most. During the slow season experience, spinting by your bedroom door, doors slamming, and what appears to be highheels on hardwood, although the hallways are carpeted. Hallways, but not the rooms are haunted which was confirmed by the staff. I didn't believe in ghost until i stayed there. During slow season, staff may invite you to where traditional Kimono and or slippers. 1920's Japanese men and women ghosts have been seen in the halls, but always ignore the guests. GREAT FUN(for some)!

For the last few years I heard whispers and hushed references about this place as if those talking didn't want too many people to know. Intrigued by the dreamy faces of those in the know, I vowed to go some day. Finally, after a trip to Uwajimaya I struck out to find this hidden away mysterious teahouse. Walking in I felt instant tranquility and magic. It's beautiful, historical, roomy, even haunting..I drank the best latte I ever had in Seattle! The Panama Teahouse (and coffee!!!) is love. Don't go away ever!
