DESCRIPTION
With their airy new location in South Lake Union, Velocity Art and Design owners John and Lara Tusher now have an additional 1,000 square feet to display their artfully curated collection of postmodern home furnishings.
The new shop, which opened in October across from REI, is brightened by floor-to-ceiling windows and enlivened by Dutch designer Tord Boontje's striking nature scenes, which form an expansive vinyl mural on one of the store's walls.
With a focus on what the owners call "organic modernism," the design boutique carries many of the same coveted home accessories as the previous location in Belltown: Ibride trays ($40-$84); Modern Twist Vinotagz ($13-$28); Matte Stephens artwork ($50-$900) and Roost owls ($13-$33.)
New to the store is the Italian furniture line Moroso. Highlights from the collection include a bright green upholstered armchair with zipper accents ($2,527, also available in orange) and several low, sleek sofas and loungers ($6,000-$10,500, depending on style and fabric selections). Thomas Wold's fanciful mushroom tables bring a bit of whimsy into your home; the multilevel, aqua-blue-topped coffee table ($985) looked charming set atop a patterned Thomas Paul rug ($814).
Two computer stations allow design consultants to walk you through fabric selections and let you peruse the deeper design selection available on the Velocity Web site.
