Walking into Fremont's Dusty Strings is like walking into an oversized music box, all the beautiful wood, twangy notes and nostalgia. Founded in 1979, Dusty Strings is known for an informed staff who professes their pure love of music and woodworking. The company employs 30 people at their building workshop who work to create 11 types of dulcimers and seven harp models. These locally-made instruments are sold in-store as are new and used guitars, banjos, mandolins, flutes, percussion instruments, songbooks, CDs and more. The acoustic sanctuary offers workshops and classes focusing on everything from bluegrass vocals to harmonica playing, and hosts concerts nearly every week. It's enough to change an alt rocker's mind.
