DESCRIPTION
One day, owner Krista Means went hunting for a baby gift in her West Seattle neighborhood. There were a few offerings here and there, but the area lacked a store dedicated to the fashion needs of youngsters. The seed was planted. When Means spied a prime retail space in the heart of the Junction on the corner of California Avenue Southwest and Southwest Alaska Street, she didn't hesitate. Months later, in November 2006, she opened Georgia Blu.
The large and deep space is painted powder blue and filled with kids’ clothes from newborn to age six. Two white sofas invite moms to sit and chat and an enclosed play area in back of the store invites busy little hands. Vintage cribs brim with adorable stuffed animals, tiny monkey-faced shoes peek out from shelves, and squishy Giraffe blankets encourage squeezing. For moms and babes there's a collection of body products by Mustela and California Baby and little pink baby-scented soaps called Nudie Cutie from Noodle & Boo.
Business has been good. "I feel like Seattle is giving me a big hug," says Means. But it's obvious her taste for classic children's clothing and accessories is luring parents in search of quality not kitsch. For the most part, Means selected mid to high-end clothing and European lines. Some items look like miniaturized adult clothing, but often there is a touch of sweetness in the details, or a playful color.
Quality and style do not come cheap. Neige, a high-end line featuring timeless but fashionable clothing for little girls, includes a three-quarter sleeve cocoa-colored velveteen jacket (that I would wear if it were bigger) for $78. The matching gaucho pants are $66. Other lines include Tea, Luna Luna and Petit Bateau. However, Means worked hard to include quality-made merchandise with affordable price points. A Max n' Maddie top and panties set is just $15. Cute onesies from Feather Baby are $19.

We make the trip out to West Seattle to visit Georgia Blu whenever we have a special event or need a great gift. My 3 year old daughter loves the play area in the store and we own our fair share of super cute headbands I've only every seen @ Georgia Blu. Great Store!!
