DESCRIPTION
This Ballard spa keeps it simple: If you have it, they'll wax it.
The Wax Bar, a cool blue-and-white den of hair removal on an otherwise nondescript block of 15th Avenue Northwest, has a waxing menu so extensive it's almost alarming. There are the usual suspects: brow, full leg, bikini, Brazilian. But spa-goers can also opt for the waxing of toes, fingers and nostrils. There’s even an intricate-sounding "full face" treatment (brow, lip, chin, cheeks, jawline, ears, nostrils and forehead).
Owner and aesthetician Karen Jahn is putting her years of experience at Habitude to work at the Wax Bar, but she's added a few interesting twists, too. The menu here includes not only waxing and facials but also liquid courage: It's the first spa in the state to acquire a liquor license. Staff members serve munchies and beer -- Peroni, hard cider and framboise or peach lambic -- to clients while they wait. The daily happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. might pair booze with a brow or a lip wax. Happy-hour treatments change seasonally.
In addition to waxing, the spa offers traditional facials and lash and brow tinting, as well as a bikini "facial" for clients suffering from the cumulative effects of regular maintenance. Throw in a selection of Dermalogica skin products and Hobo clutches for sale, and you've got an attractive spa cocktail.
