DESCRIPTION
Former Olivine owner Julie Merriman Wray has picked a winner with her new Fremont store, Show Pony, delivering up a delightful selection of jewelry, handbags, hats, shoes, cards, art and more.
The store is thoughtful and well curated (a must given its diminutive size) and features a touch of glam with its hot-pink accent wall and sparkling crystal sconces. A collection of vintage ceramic horses placed around the shop adds a little kitsch, but the overall feel of the store is sophisticated whimsy.
Olivine regulars will recognize hoodies from Prairie Underground (from $198), handbags from Crystalyn Kae (from $155) and Merriman Wray's own Lulu Beauty perfumes (from $40). New collections at Show Pony include slouchy recycled leather handbags from Valhallabrooklyn ($298), Missoni-esque scarves from Ray ($50), lip gloss from The Makeup Project ($18) and romantic, antiqued necklaces from Scotland's Luxe (from $70).
It wouldn't seem right to talk about one of Merriman Wray's stores without mentioning perfumes, since her first retail venture was an aromatherapy shop in Wallingford Center. She's stocked Show Pony with exclusive lines like cult favorite Melissa Flagg ($40), whose hard-to-find Clementine perfume oil is worn by celebrities like Lindsey Lohan and Scarlett Johansson; and former Elle magazine editor Katherine Growney's Saffron James parfums ($85), which are inspired by the sweet scent of Hawaiian flowers.
Nestled in a prizewinning location next to Kimberly Baker Jewelry, Impulse boutique and Lambs Ear Shoes, Show Pony's arrival in Fremont ratchets up the already excellent shopping in the Center of the Universe.
