High-end lingerie has a happy home in this tiny downtown store, whether it's Egyptian cotton granny underwear ($25) or a white, silk pair of pajamas adorned with vintage mother-of-pearl buttons, beadwork and hand-embroidery ($1,300). Buyers have searched out the finest designers, such as C. Gilson with lace made on a 19th-century loom, or Andra Gabrielle, who details silk slips by hand with vintage lace. A new line, Khurana of Toronto, turns out refreshingly retro nighties and slips.

Sure, it's expensive, but every woman's derriere deserves to be cradled by a pair of $200 La Perla panties at least once.

TIP: If you're lucky enough that someone else is buying your lingerie, the staff — all professional fitters — will take your measurements and keep them on file.
