DESCRIPTION
This place specializes in American, high-end stately furniture from the 19th century in a positively genteel setting. Upon first look, you'll be struck by the abundance of rich mahogany and walnut desks, armoires, tables and dressers, set off by the fine Oriental carpets underfoot. Period lighting hangs from every possible inch of the ceiling, and if that's not enough, check out the display cases filled with lovingly rescued sconces. What makes Bogart, Bremmer & Bradley stand out in its elegance are the thoughtful touches placed just so - a vintage box of Ivory soap placed in an oak cabinet, perhaps, or a gold-brocade set of shoes and matching purse laid on an end table. Of course, all this pomp doesn't come cheap. A walnut magazine rack from the 1880s runs around $800. The 1905 nickel-plated caged shower with a claw-foot cast-iron base will run you around $27,000 - but chances are, you won't find something so rare in such perfect condition anywhere else.
Tip: Most of the lamps have been rewired. There is, however, a selection of lights that still have the original works that may or may not be functional, and do-it-yourselfers save significantly by going for those.
