DESCRIPTION

The English influence is evident here, with 4,500 square feet of oak wardrobes and tables that date back at least 100 years, sections of terra-cotta chimneys and a wide selection of beveled mirrors and stained-glass windows. Proprietor Chris Kappler, who has been in business since 1982, also has an eye for architectural detail, whether it's a sweet mirrored mantle or a grandiose set of 10-foot-high French doors enhanced with stained glass.

Kappler keeps a healthy stock of English concrete animal sculptures, as well as old iron gates, posts, tools and salvaged building materials that, with the right application, can add that artistic oomph indoors or out.

Tip: While the big pieces take precedence here, take a moment to soak in the small stuff, such as vintage fruit-box labels and old baskets that you can surely use somehow, somewhere.
