DESCRIPTION

This simple, elegant shop on Eastlake specializes in caviar from the Caspian Sea, the likes of which you will never, ever see in your local supermarket. Trust us.

Owners Betsy and Dale Sherrow have been providing caviar to the Northwest's top restaurants, retailers and gourmands since 1990 — expect to pay about $48 for an ounce of Sevruga and about $90 for an ounce of Beluga. Prices too steep to dig that deep in your wallet? They also have some domestic selections of Ikura (salmon) roe, paddlefish and white sturgeon from the western United States that start at $20 an ounce.

Of course, you can't just go eating caviar off of any old serving piece (metal oxidizes the eggs). You'll need the proper accoutrements, so while you're there, make sure to pick up a mother-of-pearl serving set.

But wait, there's more. Fois gras. Champagne. A few choice items such as white truffle oil and Hadduch capers. Mmm. Sounds like a picnic. A nice picnic. A really, really really nice picnic.

TIP: Don't know where to begin your caviar education? Swing by the shop on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a free tasting. Pony up for a glass of champagne and you've got yourself a little adventure, cheap.
