DESCRIPTION

From the same crew that runs superlative Thai noodle house, Thaiku, comes La Carta de Oaxaca, a tiny (40 seats) establishment serving up coastal Mexican cuisine that's worthy of immense praise. Every dish that comes out of Oaxaca's open kitchen — the tacos al pastor (barbequed pork with cilantro and onion), the molotes (potatoes and beef sausage wrapped in a lightly fried tortilla) and the albondigas (spicy meatball) soup — is delicious, and beautifully plated to boot.

Be advised that Oaxaca's entrees are small — you'll want to order two at once — but at approximately $5 per plate, it's not such a bad deal for food this terrific. And we haven't even mentioned the bar's judiciously-chosen selection of tequilas, or the fact that La Carta de Oaxaca makes the best damn on-the-rocks margarita we've had in this town.

I can't imagine how anyone would object to the actively friendly ambience here, and the last thing it feels like to me is a hospital room. But whatever. The food is damn good, especially the fresh-made tortilla chips with guacamole or pico de gallo. My only quibble is that it'd be nice to have more veggie options.
