DESCRIPTION

The only reason I get out of bed before noon on Sundays is to run to Café Besalu for coffee and croissants. Even if the bakery delivered, I'd still go down there to watch those utterly delicious pastries, breads, tarts and brioches being made in Besalu's open kitchen. There's a tremendous satisfaction in knowing that what you see is exactly what you get.

Bottom line: There's not a single mediocre item in Besalu's glass cases. Enjoy the pastries on-premises, or take a bunch of them down to Golden Gardens with a cup of coffee, and revel in every one of your senses.

Bad Service, less than mediocre1

After waiting in line for more than 10 minutes, we were served by a hippie boy with long hair that looked unsanitary. He was rude and refused to heat up our pastries. When we requested a fresh pastry that just came out of the oven, he refused to serve us; claiming that the pastry that we had was 'fresh'. The latte and mochas that we had were cold, and flat. The pastries were cold and less than fresh as claimed by the rude hippie. I think cafe besalu should take a deep hard look at their employees and the level of customer service. Especially so when the quality of the food and coffee is less than desired. Pastries should be served warm not cold. The coffee was cold, tasteless and weak. Spend your sunday elsewhere and watch out for the unsanitary hippie at the counter.

The stuff Sundays were made for5

I go there for the croissants which are close to perfection striking a great balance between cunchy and soft, rich yet still airy. If I had anything to say to dampen my excitement for it, it would be the taste of the butter they use, nothing against it but missing the 'je ne sais quoi' to reach perfection... But getting picky here. For the rest, it is cozy, you can sit inside or out and their capuccino has nothing to be ashamed of.
