DESCRIPTION

Sadly, Moe Bar is not a "Simpsons"-themed establishment. Tempted though you may be to ring the place up and ask for an "I.P. Freely" or to inquire after the recipe for a Flaming Homer, you're thinking of the wrong Moe.

This Moe is at once an homage to -- and, after a fashion, a resurrection of -- Moe's Mo' Rockin' Cafe, the venue that was in the space now occupied by Neumos and Moe Bar. The original Moe's closed in 1997, and this new bar, in association with its adjoining music venue, seeks to reclaim the& You know what? This is too confusing. So, anyway, it's not based on "The Simpsons."

But Moe Bar does have one thing in common with its cartoon not-counterpart: It should be the first place you go after a bad day at the plant. The happy hour at Moe runs gloriously long -- five fabulous hours, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., giving you ample time to suck down a few $2 beers and well drinks. (They've got Manny's Pale Ale, Redhook IPA, Peroni, Blue Moon, Mac & Jack's and Miller on tap.)

The pizzas, salads and appetizers are top-notch, imported from nearby Via Tribunali. And the drink menu runs from the trendy (the "So Fresh and So Clean" features cucumber-infused vodka served up with cucumber slices) to the down-and-dirty (the $8 "Oh S---, Hell Yeah" special is defined thus: "Pick the beer and pick a shot. Word to your mom").

The re-thinking of the room has made it airy, accessible and, above all, comfortable. Several large booths eat up large parties, while a number of sturdy wooden tables and a lengthy bar can handle happy-hour and late-night crowds with room to spare. If you knew this room only as Neumos' side bar or the Bad Juju, you're going to be pleasantly surprised at how complete an identity Moe Bar has forged for itself.
