There you have it, really. Coldplay is coming to KeyArena on Wednesday, Jan. 25, with rockin' waif Fiona Apple in a supporting spot. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. Coldplay comes in support of the band's album "X&Y," but should play a crowd-pleasing set of songs liberally drawn from all releases.

No question about it, my neighborhood of Ballard is changing. Every other storefront is now a boutique. Condominiums and town homes are seemingly springing up at a rate of one per fortnight. The swinging singles crowd that was once found only in Belltown now finds its way into Ballard nightly, largely confined to a bar whose name I won't mention out of decorum (cough Matador cough). All one can do to fight the future is to find the bits of Ballard that are clinging to the old ways, to a time before people like me came in and ruined everything.

Life Behind Bars
I know some cringe at the thought of dining out alone, though I've always enjoyed going solo. Sometimes this girl just wants to nosh and sip cocktails minus-one or sans the entire posse. After a hectic day at the office, I look forward to a pleasant meal out on my own with no distractions. Don't get me wrong, my friends are all fabulous, and yes, there's no place like home if you want to be alone. Yet, an empowering, self-indulgent time out on the town is often necessary.
