Monday: Folksinger and harpist (I almost called her a "harpie") Joanna Newsom plays Benaroya Hall with a 29-piece orchestra. Newsom's lovely compositions and high-pitched vocals should sound utterly amazing with symphonic backing.

For years, the Northgate outpost of Gene Juarez Salons & Spas has toiled in the shadows of the chain's more polished locations in downtown Seattle and Bellevue. That's about to change with the opening of a bigger, prettier salon and spa at the North Seattle mall, which is currently undergoing a massive makeover. The new salon and spa will open Nov. 5.

In its storied 20-year history, Madison Valley restaurant Rover's has welcomed the rich, the famous and the beautiful -- but not once the bovine. The acclaimed French bistro serves some of the most flavorful fare in Seattle (to the likes of Henry Kissinger, Oliver Stone, Hillary Clinton, Peter Gabriel, Julia Child and Geena Davis), but it has never put a steak on its menu -- until now.
