A mom with small children
must have enough arms to wipe, wrangle, nurse, feed and snuggle her wee ones,
while at the same time performing all the tasks expected of a grown-up, like
combing her hair, making dinner and sometimes, if she's lucky, putting on
mascara. The Kemby Sidekick is just the ticket for on-the-go, multitasking mothers. Created by local moms Kimi
Boal and Julia Young, the Sidekick is a diaper bag and hip-slung baby carrier
all wrapped up into one stylish and easy-to-use package.

When Leslie Conti of Fremont's Eurostyle Your Life learned that the
Archdiocesan Housing Authority
was closing its 19-year-old wooden toy workshop, The Giving Tree, she knew
something had to be done to save it. After negotiating a great deal on the space and a workshop
full of woodworking machines and supplies, Conti reopened The Giving Tree in October as
Westlake Woodwerks, where local artists volunteer their time making small,
classic wooden toys and other impressive art projects.

There are few places in Seattle that urge women to unleash their
inner girlie-girl more than Shimmer Beauty Bar. Newly opened in October and
owned by Duque Salon + Spa + Boutique owner Giovanna Duque, Shimmer is
resplendent in pink from tip to tail. Nestled next to Ella Mon in a tall, narrow space formerly
occupied by Pulp Lab, Duque envisions Shimmer as "a non-threatening place for
women to exhale, step away and reconnect with their girlfriend community" -- while enhancing their makeup application skills or just sitting back and leaving the work to the experts.
