Convergence Zone
Thankfully, Seattle is a fantastic town for pinball, with several great locations serving an eclectic variety of games and atmosphere. Let's get the obvious place out of the way first: Shorty's Coney Island rules. This Belltown joint boasts good beer, great music, hot dogs (veggie and meat), and a dozen pinball machines, spanning all the eras of the game. If you get tired of playing you can sit down at an actual pinball playfield – ingeniously converted to a table, glass and all -- and chat it up with your pals. Best of all, the smoking ban has made it possible to breathe inside the bar, rendering the portable oxygen tanks optional. Parking problems aside, you could hardly ask for more from a place to play.

Convergence Zone
Take "Snow White," cross it with "Romeo and Juliet," set it in the kingdoms of feudal China, make it a musical spanning every style there is, and direct it through the haze of a peyote-laced fever dream. This just begins to describe the experience of watching "Princess Raccoon," the latest film from 85-year-old cult director Seijun Suzuki. It may not be my favorite movie of SIFF 2006, but if I see anything more creative and memorable in the next three weeks I will be truly shocked.
