What We Crave
We don't know a much better way to patiently await this year's
summer-come-lately than to slip into the softly lit lounge of Licorous
on Capitol Hill and sink our teeth into a smoked white bean tartine.

What We Crave
"You crave what? Red bean paste?" You might think we're crazy,
but we don't mind. We're happy to let you eat all of the fluffy coconut
buns or pineapple rolls. We'll chow down on Mee Sum Pastry's sesame seed balls.

What We Crave
The mini duck burgers at Wallingford's Tilth
should come with a warning: once you've tasted one of these little sliders, you'll be
ruined for all other burgers.

What We Crave
Happy hour at Dragonfish Asian Cafe
has long been a magnet for downtown workers looking for a cure for the
9-to-5 blues. The $2 sushi half-rolls and $3 cocktails get most of the
press, but it's the delicate little cubes of ahi bathed in a light soy
and sesame sauce, and flecked with fresh little sprigs of cilantro and
chives, that really get us smiling.

What We Crave
Maybe it's the smoky strips of thick-cut bacon or the enormous, juicy
chunks of chicken that escape their sandwich confines like a teenager
skipping out on curfew. Then again, it could be the gooey jack cheese,
heaps of caramelized onions and healthy slather of spicy secret sauce
that all melt together to create their own lusty affair.

What We Crave
On days when we just need a sweet little something-something, we head to Casuelitas Island Soul in the Central District for light-as-air coconut cornbread ($1 each).

What We Crave
A seasonal menu is a delight. We love revisiting all our old haunts only to find new discoveries. It keeps things fresh and lively. That is, of course, until our favorite dish or cocktail disappears from the menu -- which is exactly what happened on our last trip to Capitol Hill's swanky Sun Liquor, when we searched in vain for our beloved Punetazo ($8).

What We Crave
Ripe red cherry tomatoes, crispy cukes and bright shavings of fennel tumble together with velvety little balls of fresh mozzarella in a zesty vinaigrette with hints of mustard, pepper and basil. Each bite is like summer on a fork, no waiting required.

What We Crave
Walking into West Seattle's Bakery Nouveau on an empty stomach is dangerous. Even on a full belly, it's nearly impossible to escape without at least one of their enormous, twice-baked almond croissants ($3.50).

What We Crave
Today, we feel lucky. We feel special. We feel like we got out of bed on the right side. Because today, we were one of the early birds at Capitol Hill's Volunteer Park Café, and we made it there before they ran out of their legendary pot pies.
