Our nation's credit economy is boomeranging on us, from the national to household level. New debt and default fires seem to break out daily. Without intervention, we may be setting up our children for equally bad habits. And you don't want your kids to turn out like the ones in this disturbing New York Times article.

When the nation's going under the limbo stick, is it unwise to open a new store -- before you know how low the economy's gonna go? Not if you're opening a consignment store. Across the country, shoppers are entering resale and discount stores in droves. And in Seattle, here's one more place parents can shop for gently-used clothing, toys and gear.

I've noticed quite a few children (and parents) sporting Obama tees this year, as shown in the photo at left, taken at the Ballard Market. In fact, these locally-made tees are so popular that they're sold in 13 Seattle stores.

We’ve all heard that green is good, but where to get baby's green goods? Check out Fremont's new Birth and Beyond Baby. An offshoot of the original Birth and Beyond store in Madison Park, Birth and Beyond Baby opened a month ago and sells everything an eco-aware mom might need, from breastfeeding supplies to wipes (cloth, of course).
