Your mother gives and gives and gives, and what do you give back? Nothing but heartache. Did you have to get that tattoo? And is she ever going to have a grandchild? The least you could do for her this Mother's Day is buy her something sweet-smelling or pretty, or take her to brunch someplace nice. You always were a good kid, you know, even if that tattoo makes you look like some kind of criminal.

Last chance to see 'Roman art from the Louvre'
Seattle Art Museum's breathtaking display of Roman antiquities ends Sunday night -- but not before we've had a chance to see it off with a 35-hour colosseum-burner of a party.

Families
For once, give Mom a good experience
You're breaking your mother's heart, you know. Make it up to her by taking her golfing, to a spa, on an Argosy cruise, to a crepe brunch or on a "Tour de Chocolat."

Molly Moon's grand opening
The new "ice cream boutique" in Wallingford is pulling out all the stops this Saturday, with free cones for kids from 3 to 5 p.m. and a DJ set by Eric Johnson of the Shins.

Have your Cake at the Paramount
Cake brought Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" to the undeserving Lollapaloooza generation. If you can get through it or "Italian Leather Sofa" without dancing, check your pulse.

The fearless and funny Margaret Cho talks smack at the Paramount.

Go, "Speed Racer," go -- into a dizzying, computer-animated world.

One of the highlights of the Maritime Festival is a tugboat race. 'Nuff said.

CHAC's "Medea Knows Best" is a "completely unfaithful' staging of Euripides' tragic play.

Household pets enjoy their 15 minutes of fame at the Average Joe Cat Show.

Beyond the weekend
You can say what you will about The Proclaimers and "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)," but there's no denying that they're an agreeable pair of lads and that their earworm of a hit is one of the best drinking songs ever to find its way into the popular vernacular. See them at the Tractor this Monday, even if you have to walk there.

Tuesday evening brings "Running with Scissors" author Augusten Burroughs to Town Hall, where he'll read from his "terrifying" memoir, "A Wolf at the Table." Burroughs has a major hipster following, and you'll probably see most of your friends at the reading, cringing along with the author -- but if you miss somebody, don't fret, because you'll surely catch up with them at the Showbox gig by ascendant Minneapolis band Tapes 'n Tapes, or at David Schmader's infamous live tribute to/takedown of Paul Verhoeven's jiggly epic "Showgirls."

Finally, the Seattle International Children's Festival -- a wonderful and (obviously) family-friendly set of variety shows featuring puppeteers, acrobats, actors and musicians from every corner of the globe -- opens a weeklong run at Seattle Center this Monday. Enjoy it with your kids, and remember the good times when they grow into ungrateful adults.
