Tips on making a sign
Weather-proof your signs Make sure your signs can withstand the Northwest elements! Select a material that can stand up to both wind and rain. Mount your signs on sturdy corrugated cardboard in a striking color and cover the front of your sign with clear contact paper.
Visibility pays! The more signs you put up, the more people will be attracted to visit your sale. Print enough signs to cover all the local intersections leading to your sale as well as a few key high traffic intersections a little further out. Hanging at least three signs at each four-way intersection will effectively divert traffic to your sale.
Limit the information on your sign Only put what's absolutely necessary to get people to your sale!
·
Do not list all the items at your sale!
·
Do list WHEN and WHERE your sale is, but don't use actual dates, use days and times only, so you can reuse your signs. Use Street Names (possibly house number), community/development names and facility names. Landmarks are easier to locate for local drivers than street addresses.
·
Use bold directional arrows on your sign and make them stand out from the rest of the information on your sign
Obey the law. The City of Seattle's Web site lists Postering Rules you must follow within the Seattle City limits. Check with your local authorities about restrictions in your area on where you can put your signs, when you can put them up and when you have to remove them.
