I'm a big fan of the site Etsy.com and if you haven't been there, I encourage you to check it out. It's a shopping site featuring independent artists selling handmade wares from jewelry and clothing to original, custom artwork. Buyer, beware though - there are so many fun, funky, unique items at Etsy, you might become addicted.

I love custom, wearable art -- especially when it's custom, wearable dog art. Whether it's handmade clothing or jewelry, each piece is individually designed and created as expressive art and what could be more expressive than a dog's face, right?

I'm not a baker myself -- in fact, I rarely even cook. But still, there's something about creating something from scratch that feels homey, especially during the holidays. That's why, in its upcoming holiday issue, CityDog Magazine (for which I am also the editor) will feature recipes from Seattle-area dog lovers.

About a week ago, a package arrived at the CityDog Magazine office and lo' and behold, it contained an "Obama for President" dog collar. I dug around to see if there was also a "McCain for President" collar inside, but to no avail. Guess that makes me part of the "liberal media."

I'm a big fan of the show LA Ink and now your dog can show off its own ink by Los Angeles based artist Anna Graham. Inspired by her Boston terrier Jim, Anna creates custom collars, leads and bowls for your four- legged friend, featuring her tattoo-inspired designs. Each is hand painted and can be personalized with your pooch's name. Choose from a variety of classic designs including Asian koi fish, a pin up girl, Day of the Dead, and more. For more information, go to tattooedpooch.com.

November is adopt-a-senior-pet month, so there's no time like the present to welcome an older dog or cat into your home. While there might be challenges, there are also many benefits to adopting a senior pet. Seattle pet photographer Emily Rieman has, in the last year, adopted two senior dogs -- Libby (now passed) and Lily -- from Seattle area shelters.
