At 5-feet 2-inches, I must have most of my clothing altered, or at the very least, hemmed. Thankfully I found Hannah Lee, seamstress extraordinaire and owner of City Custom Tailors on Second Avenue near the Moore Theatre.

Jon and Tracy Holland marry post industrial scraps and imaginative design to create one-of-a-kind handbags. The artistic local couple aims to create wearable art, and they've done it, just as the name Chemical Wedding suggests. Jon Holland explains that the line Chemical Wedding is based on the alchemist theory of transmutation of form. "Like lead into gold, we use and rearrange manufacturer's castoffs and turn them into handbags."

Scraps are the last thing you'll get your dog at this new pet supply store located above the Whole Foods store on Denny Way. The tag line is a better descriptor: "healthy grub & cool gear." The shop carries nine premium lines of all-natural pet food for dogs and cats, some of it organically certified. They even have a raw diet for your health-conscious furry friend. Owners Dave Figueroa and Richard Vander Meer are serious about putting the best food on your dog's table. "We can assist people with many of their pet's issues through diet," says Figueroa. "If they have allergies, there are foods we can recommend."

Owner Lisa Clinton opened her shop this month near Verite, the cupcake Mecca. Juniper's Spartan, uncluttered, space has concrete floors, natural wood display shelves, and a sleek black bench seat. The simplicity of the decor reflects Clinton's philosophy about her shop. "Designers who consider the whole process of their creativity rather than the end result create special and more valuable items. I'm drawn to designers whose clothing is going to last through trends and I'm especially interested in those working to tread more lightly on the planet," says Clinton.

Tired of spending a fortune on shoes for every occasion? Check out Mohop shoes, handmade by Annie Mohaupt from Chicago. She came up with an ingenious design that can turn one pair of shoes into dozens of styles. One shoe base is available in low, mid, and high heels (from one to 3-inches). Switch out the colored and patterned ribbons (five are provided with your purchase), change the tie style (the shoes come with a booklet with 12 ways to tie the ribbons), and voila! Soup and sandwich, horse and carriage – how ‘bout wine and shopping? You may be able to have one without the other, but what a great combination. A wine shop/bar is a brilliant complement to a mall.
