We've found great new places where you can shop to enlarge your wardrobe (or your waistline!); plus a sample sale for a good cause; nipple concealers for slinky dresses (another good cause!); custom jeans embellishments; Lincoln Square's new Container Store and more.

've noticed I'm spending increasing amounts of time in Ballard. Once upon a time, there was only the girl haven Olivine and a few other interesting shops along Ballard Avenue. But now the compact area has become a true destination shopping hot spot, and one I always recommend to visitors. The influx of hip boutiques and unique stores in Ballard continues, most recently with the opening of Blackbird, the men's clothing store that relocated from Fremont. And there's more to come.

When I went in search of holiday dresses this week, I discovered an amazing number of styles as well as a huge range in prices — often in the same shop. There are the usual suspects such as BCBG at Pacific Place which carries a mother lode of seductive dresses, or Guess?, Paris Hilton's favorite.

My favorite new shop opened Nov. 4, but because it's just for the holidays, the store's closing soon, too. Victoria Simons opened her gift shop Goody! just steps from Pearl, her popular clothing and gift boutique near Green Lake. Simons has filled the tiny, bright space with groovy gifts such as Piu Piu singing paper-clip holders to adorable knit animal backpacks for children.

I recently had the pleasure of spending the evening with four very well-behaved princesses-in-training who graciously allowed me to drop in on their private spa party at High Maintenance Skincare Studio. The group of 10- to 12-year-olds was perfectly at home indulging in a special evening of pampering and spa treatments.
