Have you been wondering how to jump into the Seattle dog world with all four paws? Are you motivated, organizationally gifted, able to delegate and live near and use Genessee off-leash area? Well, have I got a volunteer opportunity for you.

The off-leash area at Genessee Park needs a steward. I won't kid you: It's no small job. Stewards lead volunteer work parties, coordinate with Parks officials about work that needs to be done, act as a contact for folks with good ideas for improving the park, and work with COLA (Citizens for Off-Lease Areas) to keep the park safe and clean for all. Stewards receive support from COLA, which, in conjunction with Parks, provides tools, funding and member outreach.

Just writing down a stewards' responsibilities brings home their selflessness. And, imagine, all the off-leash areas have at least one. It's a spur in the side of all of us to seek out our stewards, thank them for their effort and sign up to volunteer for work parties when the call comes. To jump in the deep end, contact colainfo@coladog.org about becoming a volunteer steward.
