If your kid is the type to spend hours sketching dream outfits, you'll be happy to know about the new Make It Workshop that opened last week in West Seattle.

Weekend and after-school sewing classes introduce kids ages 9 and up to the basics of clothing construction. A five-week course ($145) covers everything from pattern layout to the ins and outs of sewing machines, while two-day workshops ($55) cover a specific project such as a tote bag or quilt squares. Classes are limited to five students, which should allow everyone to get the help they need.

If your child wants to work more on their project or is getting a little stuck on something they are working on at home, Make It Workshop also offers drop-in sessions on Saturday afternoons for $10 an hour. At these sessions, students can use the equipment at the workshop and get a little assistance here and there.

Make It Workshop offers similar classes for adults, too, with a few more challenging courses, such as "Make a Customized Shirt."
