Are you a Seattle Sonics fan? Do you fondly remember the days when the Glove ran the show and the NBA team was the biggest ticket in town? Or maybe Xavier McDaniel is your all-time favorite Sonic -- even though his appearance in "Singles" was one of the oddest movie cameos ever.

If you're mad about -- or depressed by -- the recent efforts by the Sonics' owners and the NBA to move the team to Oklahoma, then we have just the event recommendation for you on June 16.

Save Our Sonics is calling all Sonics fans to the Federal Courthouse (700 Stewart St.) throughout the day Monday to show their support for the local (for now) NBA franchise. The rally will take place throughout the day, but the main event featuring former Sonics stars Gary Payton and Xavier McDaniel (and possibly other team legends) begins at 4:30 p.m.

If you haven't been following the news, here's a quick recap: The Sonics and the City of Seattle are in a legal battle over the lease at KeyArena and the team's potential move to Oklahoma City next season. The legal proceedings begin June 16 at the Federal Courthouse.

With their rally, Save Our Sonics hopes to relay the message -- to the court, Oklahoma City, the NBA, ESPN and other national media -- that Seattle fans still care about their one-time championship team.

So why should you go? Consider what columnist Steve Kelley had to say in The Seattle Times: "... if you still care about keeping basketball in town, you'll go to the rally next Monday and cheer Payton and McDaniel, the same way you cheered them when they used to thrill us on the floor, when there never was a doubt that the Sonics belonged to Seattle."
