Capitol Hill pubs and clubs
Seattle's most colorful boho neighborhood, the Hill is where you go to see and be seen if you're a hipster, flipster, scenester, coolster, punk rocker, raver, yuppie, guppie, skater, trustafarian, evangelist, fetish freak, and/or one of those people who just wants one minute of our time to sign a petition making it legal to grow hemp.
Baltic Room (Capitol Hill)
The décor here is swell and modern while the music is hip and melodic. There is a well-considered balance between open, meeting-people space and cozy getting-to-know-you corners.
Barca (Capitol Hill)
Yes, this darkly lit spot is Eurotrash, but don't think dingy Berlin — picture the warm, inviting Moorish environs of southern Spain.
Broadway New American Grill (Capitol Hill)
Go to the Grill to sample tasty and strong froo-froo drinks while hanging out with cute gay boys, or for late night food if you crave more than a Dick's burger. Plus, its sidewalk seating is a perfect stop for people-watching.
Capitol Club (Capitol Hill)
Grab one of the few tables on the second-floor balcony for a trendy cosmo, a hummus plate and a bird's-eye view of Pine Street below.
Cha Cha Lounge (Capitol Hill)
Formerly located on the 500 block of Pine Street -- an address it occupied from Cinco de Mayo, 1998, until it was recently dislocated by gentrification -- the Cha Cha is a raucous, good-spirited dive bar, one of the city's best.
The Chapel Bar (Capitol Hill)
Despite its past life as a funeral home, the Chapel is one of the liveliest bars on Capitol Hill.
Chop Suey (Capitol Hill)
This is a cool club with lots of great live and DJ grooves that tend towards hip-hop and electronica.
Comet Tavern (Capitol Hill)
This dusty old tavern is pretty much the best place on the Hill for cheap beer and those who love it. Local bands strut in and stagger out of the establishment on a regular basis.
Elysian Brewing Co. (Capitol Hill)
Yearning for wide open spaces, but also want to drink an exclusive craft brew? The Elysian is homey, friendly, and you'd swear dance recitals take place in the day at this spacious pub.
Garage (Capitol Hill)
On the edge of the two hills (Capitol and Pill), this garage-turned-posh-pool-hall (and now a bowling alley, too) is pretty rad.
Kurrent Restaurant + Bar (Capitol Hill)
Kurrent is the very picture of a Belltown-style restaurant and bar -- which would be peachy if Kurrent were in Belltown. But it's located in Capitol Hill's Pike/Pine corridor. Kurrent may acquire that Pike/Pine feel over time, but for now, it's a strange fit for the Hill.
Linda's Tavern (Capitol Hill)
This Wild West joint's got cheap pitchers of beer, well-poured cocktails, decent bar grub, pool tables and a good jukebox.
Neighbours (Capitol Hill)
It's a big, old school gay bar where the music's an infectious throw-back to the '80s, the drinks are reasonable, the overall vibe very affable.
Neumo's (Capitol Hill)
If you were a regular at Moe's, Neumo's will feel like coming home, but even if you never stepped foot inside the original venue, it's a fine place to see a show. Sightlines are good and the sound mix nice and loud.
Smith Pub 'n' Grub (Capitol Hill)
Smith wastes no time getting down to business. Its beer list is enormous; you could order something different from it every day for a solid month -- and get well into the following month, too.
Sun Liquor (Capitol Hill)
Atmosphere is the draw at Sun Liquor, a Capitol Hill bar created by the owners of Top Pot Doughnuts. The menu is heavy with rum-based drinks that are made with fresh-squeezed juice and decorated with orchids.
