Upscale Appearance In A Down Turned Economy

I have found that when things tighten up economically people tend to dress better. I believe this is because they have to dress better than their competition in order to stand out from the crowd.
My tailor, who does work for many local stores, says he is swamped with alterations. He said the Nordstrom in Seattle is doing great on clothing sales. Have you seen this increase in professional dress in the local workplace and what do you think about it?

This is so true in my office. We have a large sales staff and the top producers are the folks who have always dressed well. They are not necessarily the most fashionable but have it put together; nice looking shirts, quality slacks/skirts, classy coats. Other, not so successful, salespeople either follow suit or fade away. Denim has died in our office.

I have certainly seen everyone stepping up their game on all levels. To me personal appearance is where it begins.

Well, Mr. Haberdasher, I have seen professional dress turn around in Seattle in a big way over the last 9 years or so. It was kind of weird seeing what people thought they could get away with in a professional environment.

Still today it seems like when people dress up in suits they do pretty well, but when they try to dress down they are casually confused. This month I've seen one person really pull of a cool casual outfit and countless who don't seem to know what's going on. So, Mr. Haberdasher, I ask you to please get out there and dress Seattle better. They want to be well dressed, they really do. Some of them just fall short in the know how category.
