Downtown pubs and clubs
By day, downtown Seattle is host to plenty of hustle and bustle, with business folks and tourists scuttling betwixt big, imposing buildings. By night, it's largely deserted, though there are some bright spots on the downtown nightlife horizon.
Alibi Room
The place gets cramped as hell, but it's always fun, and even at its worst, it's only mildly Eurotrash-y. It's the coolest little bar the Market area has to offer.
Can Can
This Pike Place Market hideway is the place to go for cocktails, live can-can dancing and that classic cabaret vibe.
El Corazon
Known as The Offramp back in its grunge heyday and then Graceland, El Corazon is still a great, rough-and-tumble, wooden, rock 'n' roll bar with a decent sound system, good booking and stiff drinks.
Feierabend
Hoist fine German beers and food to match at this cozy tavern in the Cascade neighborhood. The menu includes dumplings, potato pancakes, Bavarian pretzels, spatzle, schnitzel, sausages and bratwurst.
The Green Room
Intimate, relaxed and fun: The drinks are strong here, and the clientele a cool and comfy mix of the tattooed and the J. Crew'd.
Highway 99 Blues Club
You're damn right this place has got the blues -- along with rockabilly, soul, honky-tonk, Zydeco and pretty much any other roots sound that's music to your ears.
Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub
This Irish pub has free live music much of the week, brews that are frothy and fresh, and enough authentic ambience to have you wonder if you're really in Seattle or across the ocean.
Nite Lite Lounge
A retro-decor dive with a lot going for it: a dartboard, comfy booths, stiff drinks, crazy regulars and surly bartenders.
noc noc
Reasons to love Noc Noc: the DJs assemble terrific techno, goth and hip-hop mixes, the cover rarely goes above $5, and the prevailing attitude on the floor is laissez-faire.
Oliver's Lounge
Oliver's has that hotel-bar ambiance. It's known for its selection of martinis, specializing in the Classic.
Paddy Coyne's Irish Pub
At Paddy Coyne's Irish Pub in the South Lake Union area, the draughts are generous, the bar is fully stocked and the food - soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches and a roster of Irish favorites (exceptional fish and chips and Irish Stew among them) is worth the wait.
Re-bar
Unpretentious and queer-friendly, Re-bar is the place to let it all hang out. Dance to deep house, punk and new wave tracks in any damn way you please.
The Showbox at the Market
This downtown club is the workhorse of Seattle's live music and entertainment scene. Most every touring band, DJ and comedian you can name has played here at least once, and will likely play here again.
The Triple Door
This swanky bar and concert venue for the 30-something set caters to lovers of jazz, folk, rock, R&B and much more.
Vessel
The art of mixing cocktails is in full bloom at this elegant, modern bar located next door to the 5th Avenue Theatre. he bartenders of Vessel prepare every drink with the careful eye of a chemist.
W Seattle Hotel Bar
The bar at the W Hotel is really downtown's classiest and most fun joint. This superbly-designed place has a good happy hour and a cool, relaxed vibe. Dress well and bring a date or find one!
