Pet Dish
If you've been wondering how to reveal your secret passion for
burlesque to friends in the Corgi playgroup, you just caught a
feathery, rhinestone-encrusted break.

Lola just turned six. Her favorite ice cream flavor is vanilla. Her mom makes it by hand to sell in her dad's bakery, which was named after her.

The sign outside is so mangled, it offers only a slight indication of what you might find within: a bar, some beef, a dish ending in "ibs," and something that at one bygone time was considered "special." The dilapidated exterior is a shame, because special is exactly how I would describe the food at Rose Petals Restaurant.

What We Crave
Ripe red cherry tomatoes, crispy cukes and bright shavings of fennel tumble together with velvety little balls of fresh mozzarella in a zesty vinaigrette with hints of mustard, pepper and basil. Each bite is like summer on a fork, no waiting required.

Little Kids, Big City
Retroactive Kids, which relocated from West Seattle to Columbia City last year, is the epitome of crafty chic. The selection of vintage and hipster clothes is mingled with educational and zany toys, with lots fun stuff like monkey hats made by local parents.

Columbia City children's shop Retroactive Kids is where pint-sized hipsters go to score vintage-inspired treasures like cowboy hats, Western shirts, cozy sweaters and irreverent T-shirts. Among my favorite finds at this cute kids store are the vintage-inspired bibs from Bananasaurus Rex ($16).

There are plenty of things worth noting about Columbia City's new Verve Wine Bar and Cellar. Some of them are on the finely executed menu, such as the truffled spring-onion puree, a warm ramekin of organic white onions drizzled with truffle oil; or the savory ratatouille crepes filled with sautéed summer squash.

Seattle spring brings out the more colorful side of things – cherry blossoms bloom, tulips in a rainbow of shades pop up. Unfortunately, spring also brings weeks (months!) of frizz-causing drizzle. Luckily, headbands from Cookie and the Dude allow us to deal with both. Cookie and the Dude takes home décor fabrics in a plethora of graphic, colorful prints and crafts fashion-friendly headbands.

Hike of the Week
Seward Park is always delightful, but I especially enjoy the park in winter. It's situated at the end of Lake Washington Boulevard South and is easy to get to on those all-too-short days in January. However, you might not get that far as there are several other regional parks and historical points of interest along the way.
