In recent years, they've been the team we hate to love, a lineup flush
with nice guys who make funny commercials but finish, if not last, then
damn close.

I know you want to stare at the band with your hands in your pockets, unmoving. It's the Seattle way. But that kind of nonsense won't fly for Seattle Soundbite. A lot of good bands will be playing, and there will be excellent "street-style" food on hand to reward your other senses.

For my biscuits, the Seattle Kennel Club Dog Show (March 8 & 9) has way more to offer spectators than its bigger, flashier televised sister in New York.

In case you didn't recognize it, that bright object that's been in the sky lately is the sun. It's a sure sign that spring is on its way, and with it, Seattle Mariners baseball.

While Seattle's own Top Pot may be the reigning doughnut shop in town, national chain Krispy Kreme has a cultlike following around the world (there are even Krispy Kreme locations in Kuwait and Dubai), and our fair city isn't immune to their charms.

Oh yes, it's true. On September 21, the Showbox will take over the former Fenix space at 1700 First Ave. S. (formerly the Premier) and convert it to the "Showbox Sodo." The original Showbox will be rechristened "Showbox at the Market."

It was my pleasure to attend the Seattle Erotic Art Festival this past weekend at the new Fenix (in the space formerly occupied by the Premier). The show featured local artists whose work I admire and – in some lucky cases – have begun to collect, including the brilliant cartoonist Ellen Forney, and the equally brilliant pin-up artist Krysztof Nemeth. It featured works by such well-known creators of erotic art as H.R. Giger, Brian Viveros and Annie Sprinkle. And SEAF introduced me to a bunch of artists, working in every medium, whose work I plan to become more familiar with in the coming year.
