A Seahawk looms larger than life

On the heels of recent losses, Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander's stature may have shrunk in the eyes of fans, but he'll soon loom larger than life in downtown Seattle.

Niketown [1] has picked Alexander as the latest local athlete to be honored on its 31-foot-tall storefront billboard. He follows in the footsteps of former Seattle (and Nike-represented) athletes Ken Griffey Jr. (1996) and Gary Payton (2000), and current Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird, who was chosen by fans in a 2003 contest.

An unveiling ceremony [2] is scheduled for Friday at 3:30 p.m., at the corner of Sixth and Pike. After the billboard is revealed, Alexander will address fans -- who we hope are in better spirits than they were at last Sunday night's debacle at Qwest Field.

Nike will give away free commemorative T-shirts to the first 100 people in line to see the event, and attendees can enter to win items autographed by Alexander.
