Last year was my first Mother's Day as a mom, and all I wanted was some sleep. This year, while I'd still like some sleep, I also want every single body-care product from Belli Motherhood [1], a sibling to the pregnancy and baby-care collections made by Seattle's Belli Skin Care [2].
Belli was started in 2002 by Dr. Jason Rubin and his wife, Annette. Every ingredient in every product in all three collections (Belli Pregnancy, Belli Motherhood and Belli Baby) has been screened through medical databases such as MEDLINE, TOXLINE and LACTMED to ensure that there has never been any connection between those ingredients and any issue relating to pregnancy and lactation. Belli products are free of synthetic fragrances and dyes, and their light fragrance is a welcome change from some of the more heavily scented products on the market.
The Belli Motherhood collection addresses skin issues that are relevant to new moms. The Body Firming Serum ($34), which contains shiitake mushroom extract to increase the skin's elasticity, is meant to be applied daily to areas that might sag a little more than they did before the baby. The Stretchmark Minimizing Cream ($52) features the botanically derived ingredients darutoside and registril, which (according to Belli) have been shown in clinical trials to reduce the appearance of stretch marks over time.
My favorite product from the Motherhood collection is the Eye Brightening Cream ($28), which is a miracle in a bottle as far as I'm concerned. A few dabs of this luxurious cream rich in vitamin K and those dark circles are history. I may not be getting all of my beauty sleep, but I look like I am!
Belli Cosmetics are available at Twig [2] in Greenwood, Village Maternity [2] at University Village or online at the Belli Skin Care Web site [3].
