Fun stuff for families this weekend: June 13-15

By Lora Shinn

If you need options for this weekend (other than Father's Day events [0]), here are a few ideas:

Juneteenth Freedom Festival [1]. Juneteenth is the annual celebration of June 19, 1865, when the Emancipation Proclamation made it to Texas. The Central District's chamber of commerce welcomes Seattle residents to Pratt Park for a three-day festival, complete with carnival rides, a petting zoo, a Barack Obama look-alike contest [2] and a parade at 2 p.m. Sunday. (Friday-Sunday, June 13-15, 12:30-8:30 p.m., Pratt Park. Free.)

Dad's Weekend at Pacific Science Center [3]. But not for dads only. Kids and kids-at-heart will thrill at the Velcro wall, go-karts and maze relays, plus a hydroplane and a NASCAR vehicle. Free coffee for Dad in the café -- but will they offer a split-shot double skinny latte for mom to keep up with these activities? (Saturday-Sunday, June 14-15, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Seattle Center. Free with admission, free for members.)

Queen Anne Garage sale. An annual multi-family yard sale on Queen Anne with infant and kid clothing and equipment. Like Craigslist, but in one location. (Saturday, June 14, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., 2550 Block of 9th Avenue West, between West Halladay Street and West Raye Street. Free.)

Bank of America Weekend Family Workshop: Helicopters [4]. The Museum of Flight sends kids flying with a fact-filled lecture about helicopters. Then, they'll make a helicopter with staff assistance. (Saturday, June 14, 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., Museum of Flight's Side Gallery. Free with admission, free for members.)
