Think globally, buy locally...part two

As promised yesterday, here are a few more Seattle-area treat companies to pamper your pets, from salmon and "sushi" to organic and indulgent.

Seattle-based, WildSide Salmon [1] is a small, family run company with dreams of "changing the way we look at animal nutrition, one dog and cat at a time." If you can get past the smell, these little freeze-dried morsels of Alaskan-caught salmon are a favorite among cats and dogs alike. Keep an eye out for WildSide Lobster and WildSide Venison treats, coming soon!

I love sushi. In fact, my favorite sushi restaurant is I Love Sushi [2]. Now your dog can love sushi too. Well, sort of. The innovative Inu Treats [3] has created sushi-like treats for your pooch. There's the Nori Bone, made with real salmon and wrapped in seaweed; the Poochi Mochi, a yummy biscuit filled with either peanut butter or blueberries; the Paw Sticker, a handmade baked dog treat made with all-natural turkey meat and shaped like a pot sticker; and, Woof'n Rolls, made with cooked lean turkey meat and shaped like an egg roll. How adorable.

Local treat company, Wet Noses [4], reminds me of the PCC of dog treats (if you live around here, you know what that means). The treats are USDA Certified Organic and come in six flavors including Dogranola, made with flax seed, organic dried cranberries, rosemary and tahini. Other flavors include Pumpkin, Sweet Potato Curry, Apple & Carrots, Cheddar and Peanut Butter & Molasses.

Inspired by Seattle's coffee culture, Java du Mutt [5] recently launched two truly indulgent doggie treats: Wagalatte and Capoochino. Don't worry. Neither contains any caffeine, whatsoever. Instead, they are simply chicken or beef concentrates that you mix with water to pamper your pooch's palate. Add a little milk, and it looks just like any fancy cappuccino you'd find at your nearest Starbucks (except it's meat flavored...yum).

In addition to all of the above treats available in Seattle (check each of their websites for local store listings), several neighborhood pet stores are baking up their own to serve to customers including Next to Nature [6], Three Dog Bakery [7] and Scraps [8]. Also not lacking in a bakery case loaded with treats, check out Railey's Leash & Treat [9].

You'd think with all these choices, we'd have better behaved pets.
