With its light-filled space, white faux-porcelain chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling velvet drapes, Turquoise Boutique [0] is a treasure trove of stylish apparel and accessories -- without the budget-busting price tags.
The University District shop's fall and winter collection features a generous range of styles designed to flatter women of all ages and their credit cards. "We're fashion-forward but realistic and affordable for the everyday woman," says sales manager Kira Walmsely.
Nor is the store a slave to location. "Other boutiques around here have the same styles, and they specifically target a younger crowd. Because we have so many genres of clothing, we appeal to all age groups, from working professionals to college kids."
Living up to their motto, "trendy, affordable clothing," the most expensive item on the racks is a black, wool-blend, military-style trench coat for $74.50. Other than coats and jackets, everything else, including silky smooth 100 percent cashmere scarves are less than $50.
"We're really conscious of people's budgets," says sales associate Athena Youm. "Lots of people are pleasantly surprised to find out we are so affordable."
Dresses, skirts and shirts are blended into three, easy-to-sort-through sections: work, on the town and casual, with lots of choices for mix and match, like a shiny magenta ruffled blouse and classic black pencil skirt that works well for both office hours and happy hour.
Standouts include Crash's collection of sturdy, skinny jeans with a touch of spandex (for a generous fit in the thighs and seat), neutral-toned cable-knit, V-neck sweaters and a gorgeous selection of come-hither halters and ultra-soft, satin scarf tanks.
Accessories such as a deep chocolate grommeted tote (which sports an extra handle tucked inside for an over-the-shoulder look) and a pair of pointy-toed plaid flats with gold thread woven into the fabric will perk up your winter wardrobe.
Best of all, there's no sacrifice of quality for affordability -- everything this gem of a boutique carries is well constructed, with a keen eye for detail. "It's not only about good workmanship," says Youm, "We're proud to sell it."
