GEOFF CARTER / NWSOURCE
Many Seattle and Eastside restaurants have waterfront patio seating, but few have the venerable quality of Ray's Cafe. Though the Shilshole cafe and its three-decade-old sister establishment, Ray's Boathouse, may be best known for their seafood dishes, celebrated by locals and tourists alike as being among the best in the country, Ray's has a patio-seating area that would be worthy of this honor even if the kitchen served only tuna-fish sandwiches. The view from the deck -- a broad expanse of Puget Sound, framed by the Olympic Mountains -- is beyond spectacular. Visit Ray's often enough and you'll see more perfect sunsets than you've seen in your dreams.
