FriendShop is the Transformer of gift shops. Each day at the Seattle Public Library's downtown branch, a 300-square-foot box morphs into five free-standing display cases, like a loaf of bread separating into slices. The tiny space, operated by nonprofit The Friends of the Seattle Public Library, is packed with arty cards, recycled journals from Ex Libris Anonymous and jewelry from Northwest artists. Proceeds from your purchase benefit library programs -- thereby alleviating any guilt you might harbor over those unreturned library books.
