Try on Girlactik's glittery makeup for a New Year's treat

Sparkly makeup for fancy parties and evenings out can make you feel so glamorous – unless it doesn't adhere to your lips, lids or cheeks and you end up looking like a 7-year-old who went nuts with glitter and a glue gun. That's why I was excited to find out that Salon Dewi has the complete Girlactik Beauty line, which includes, among other things, a signature sparkle eyeliner/shadow set, shimmering highlighters, eye shadows, lip glosses and body powders.
The eye shadow bases ($14 each) allow shadows and sparkles to go on smooth, without creasing and without sparkle fallout. Use a brush, or use your finger; they're easy and fun to apply and you almost can't go wrong mixing and matching these pearly and iridescent colors. I like the Star Shadow in Ivy ($16), a smoky olive green, but colors range from soft, shimmery pinks to an almost tangerine orange. For cheeks, try the Star Blush in Corsica ($16), a bronzy color that gives a dewy glow. The Star Gloss lip glosses ($14) have the added bonus of a yummy guava scent. They also lack that gooey stickiness of some glosses. The Sassy Peach lip gloss has shimmer but doesn't overdo it for daily wear. If you want to draw attention to your décolletage, dust yourself with Heaven's Dust ($18), a pretty powder in three shades with subtle but noticeable sparkles.
Staffers at the salon are happy to help you create a look that will sparkle from that first champagne cocktail to breakfast in the wee hours of the morn. For a professional makeup appointment there is a $40 charge.
