More info:

Scrimping on hair and body care products is no longer a sacrifice, thanks to Rudy's Barbershop. In January, the company launched its first collection of products -- shampoo, conditioner, body wash and shave cream -- which cost between $12 and $16.

Rudy's Brand products feature high-quality ingredients such as essential oils, soothing aloe and protective wheat protein, but at a lower cost than comparable products at high-end hair salons.

"Rudy's carries hair care lines with higher price points that don't match the price of our haircuts," says David Peterson, who founded Rudy's along with Wade Weigel and Alex Calderwood. "I wanted to create a value-priced premium line to fill that void for people in the shop."

The shampoo ($14), conditioner ($16) and body wash ($14) all come in 16-ounce pump bottles and the shave cream ($12) in a five-ounce tube, which translates into a small price tag for a lot of product. The packaging has a distinctly utilitarian look and a simple stenciled logo.

Since Rudy's clientele is 70 percent male, Peterson knew that the products' scent had to be attractive to men, but also appreciated by women. The shampoo and conditioner have a base of fig and finish with a zing of grapefruit, while the body wash ends on a licorice note.

The shave cream, which Peterson claims rinses out of the blade with one pass through the water, has mint balm to soothe and calm. As a result, the products are invigorating and refreshing -- just the thing to start off your day.

Rudy's Brand products are available at Rudy's Barbershops, and are offered as room amenities at the Ace Hotel.
