Jo Malone may be an unfamiliar name in the Northwest, but the London-based scentologist has had an almost cultlike following across the globe for nearly a decade. At long last, the maven of pretty fragrances has secured counter space in both the downtown and Bellevue Square Nordstrom cosmetic departments. The Bellevue Square counter opens later this week, and the downtown counter will open Nov. 5.

Known for sometimes offbeat combinations of herbal and floral ingredients, the Jo Malone line consists of candles, oils and fragrance for your home ($65-$95) and bath oil, shower gel, perfume spritzers and cream for your body ($50-$95), in scents that are meant to be mingled but are just as lovely on their own. Orange Blossom is a classic, bright, fruity scent, and one of the collection's most popular. More sensual types will go for Blue Agava & Cacao, a heady autumnal scent -- and my favorite. Newcomer White Jasmine & Mint is reminiscent of a crisp winter morning just after the season's first snowfall.

If you're feeling adventurous, I recommend visiting the spacious counter (more than 220 feet) at the downtown Nordstrom, where you can mix scents to find the combination that's right for you. Complimentary arm and hand massages are offered, as well as Jo Malone's complete line of skin care. The Vitamin E Gel is pricey ($90 for a small but potent pot), but it works like liquid gold on blemishes and dry skin.

Jo Malone's packaging is almost as pretty as the fragrances themselves. Your purchase will be nestled in a chic cream and black box, and finished off with an elegant ribbon.
