Appointments are filling up for discounted massages and facials during Spa Week, Sept 18-24. This is the first year Seattle has participated in the national event, which invites spas to offer high-end services for a flat fee of $50. An East Coast public relations firm started the promotion in 2004 to attract new customers for its clients in New York, and it's grown to include 10 major cities.

Six Seattle spas are participating, and each will provide three different services for $50. At The Sun Spa, which is nearly booked for the event, customers can save $45 on a skincare peel and $30 on a cocoa butter massage. "It's a great thing to offer to consumers as well as people that don't normally spa because of the price," said Michelle Michael, a representative for the Woodinville spa. At Habitude at the Locks, guests can save $30 on a neck relief massage and stress relieving scalp treatment. Other participating spas include Cassie's Place Skin Care, Oriental Retreat & Spa, Skin Fitness by Pamela Bond and Spa at the Woodmark.
