Source Salon & Spa is Ballard's one-stop shop for your every pampering need

Not many of us have the time or money that it takes to run to one salon for highlights, another for a brow wax and then across town to still another spa for a massage and a quick mani-pedi. Fortunately, Source Salon & Spa has arrived on Seattle's beauty scene to take care of all your needs in Ballard.

Open since August in a ground-floor storefront at Canal Station, one of Ballard's new mixed-use buildings on Leary Avenue, Source is owned by stylist Tia Cochran, formerly of Habitude, and aesthetician Michelle Vierra, formerly of Habitude and Gene Juarez.

The salon offers an extensive menu, including haircuts ($40 and up) and color ($60 and up); skin brightening ($115) and anti-aging ($125) facials; massages ($80 for an hour); and mud therapy ($80). Source is also a one-stop-shop for waxing and nail treatments, and the salon offers a complimentary cosmetics application with a makeup artist with any service.

So what else separates Source from the pack? "It's mainly the focus we have on our employees and the environment we're creating here," says Vierra. "We want it to feel more like a family or a mom-and-pop place."

The salon's dark-wood accents, cozy green elevated pedicure benches and sleek decor read urban chic, but the big people-watching windows, through which neighborhood folks peer in at the new kid on the block, remind you that this place is so Ballard. "It's a really tight-knit community," says Vierra.

The pedicure benches aren't the only green you'll find at Source -- the salon uses eco-friendly lines like organic and vegan Kevin Murphy hair care products; SpaRitual nail polishes, which are vegan and free of DBP, formaldehyde and toluene; and shampoos and conditioners from natural Italian line Davines, whose containers are food-grade and can be reused for leftovers when you're finished with the product.
