Local Etsy.com shops yield some bright and summery finds

The weather has been gorgeous so far this summer and I’ve found myself dressing in bright colors to reflect the blue sky, sparkling water, colorful blooms and ripe red strawberries that the late spring and early summer bring.
My recent trolling on Etsy.com has also yielded some bright, fun and vivacious finds, all from local designers. Here are a few of my feel-good favorites.
If you’re in need of a new summer handbag, coin purse, clutch or zippered pouch, meet John Met Betty. Handmade on Bainbridge Island, these adorable bags are made with colorful vintage fabric and buttons and range in price from $15 to $80. With names like Pink Flamingo, Hot Pink Lilles and I love Oranges, John Met Betty bags are a colorful melange of Technicolor green, pink, orange, blue and coral mixed with graphic prints and subdued midcentury bark cloth. The only problem I have with John Met Betty bags is which one to choose -- they are all so cute.
As the weather heats up, I’m always on the lookout for bright, fun and most importantly, lightweight jewelry. West Seattle designer Dave Sheely makes beautiful chunky rings in cast in an industrial-grade urethane that is practically indestructible. My favorites are the matte finish red, orange, magenta and electric blue domed designs that run around $25, which is right up my alley. Slip one of these babies on and even your T-shirt and shorts seem chic. In addition to his Etsy shop, Sheely will have a booth at Urban Craft Uprising on Aug. 1 and 2 at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall.
There’s nothing better than a leisurely nap on a sunny summer afternoon, and the cushion covers made by local artist Kelly Clark at her Etsy shop, Umber Dove, are just the right ones for sweet dreams. Clark has a great eye for combining fabrics, colors and textures together into colorful patchwork pillowcases just perfect for lounging around on. Umber Dove cushion covers range in price from $32 to $52.

Post a commentMs. Brownrigg, I don't think you know the definition of trolling. Otherwise, yay etsy and promoting the local economy!
