Let's be honest: Nine times out of 10, shopping is all about you. Sure there's the occasional gift to buy or child to clothe, but for the most part, when you set out for the mall, it's numero uno you have in mind.

This weekend, though, you can turn your self-interest into a selfless act with University Village's fifth annual Shop to Make a Difference event, a benefit for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

May 16 to 18, buy a $20 discount card online or from any participating University Village merchant, and you'll save 20 percent on your purchases at some of your favorite shops and restaurants, including Lucky Brand Jeans, Kiehl's, Anthropologie, Barnes & Noble and many more. (View the complete list.)

The $20 you spend on the card supports cancer research at Fred Hutch. In addition, Crate and Barrel will donate 5 percent of its weekend housewares sales, and Glassybaby will give $4 per piece sold at its temporary U Village storefront.
