Maybe it's the way the stars have aligned or the particular phase of the moon. Whatever it is, it's causing local folks to plan big fashionable parties on Aug. 22. Three separate events are happening in Seattle that night, collectively featuring a fashion superstar, an award-winning designer, local boutiques and deft-fingered DJs.

I suppose you can't really call a cat scratching post "fashion," but Seattle-based Marmalade certainly creates products that are aesthetically pleasing. Not only that; they're also eco-friendly. For those reasons, Marmalade has been chosen "by a panel of judges" to participate in Pet Fashion Week, August 23-24 in New York City.

My absolute favorite Seattle boutique Last Waltz is having a their first anniversary sale and party on friday, August 29. Owner Cybele Philips has the most incredible eye and blends vintage scores with modern designers to create a fresh and innovative style. I always walk out of that store with something - from a great pair of vintage shoes for $18 to a new top from Dace.

I hate goodbyes, but alas, it's time to say farewell to yet another favorite boutique -- downtown's La Rousse, which will close its doors Sept. 30. Thankfully, shoppers will be forced to bid adieu only to the brick-and-mortar shop, as owner Amanda Rosenthal plans to move her three-year-old store online.

Trina Turk embodies casually elegant style that appeals to women in every decade of life. Her fall collection is a mixture of Parisian chic, 1960's mod and 70's flare, with flashes of pink, turquoise, purple and electric blue. If you're a fan, Trina herself will be at the Individualist section on the 2nd floor of the Downtown Nordstrom this Saturday, August 16 from 1-3 p.m.

Owned by former model Saki Takeuchi, Shaula is stocked with affordable clothing from Japanese designers. The store's concept revolves around girly, feminine styles that appeal to women of all ages. You won't find much casual wear at Shaula, and I'm not sure you'll really find clothing that appeals to women of all ages, but you will find pretty dresses, skinny denim, fun tops and trendy accessories at great prices.
