Right about now, as we anticipate Valentine's Day, the country is aglow with shades of red: crimson hearts, scarlet roses -- and the ruby hues of the second annual Project Red Dress, a "Project Runway"-inspired event which takes place on Feb. 13 from 6:30 to 10 p.m., at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel.

In Seattle, vintage pieces often play an invaluable role in relevant, urban outfits, so well-stocked vintage stores are a necessary local resource. That's why I've been unnerved by the clearance signs at Atlas Clothing, the hip, youthful vintage store on Broadway. Luckily, I can relax; the store isn't closing, it's just moving to a new Capitol Hill location on 10th Avenue.

When men's boutique Blackbird
arrived in Seattle in 2004, it made news because it was one of the
first contemporary retail stores in the city devoted to fashion-forward
styles for men. Now the groundbreaking boutique, which originally
opened in Fremont but later moved to Ballard, is making news again,
with its own line of apparel and accessories. The collection's inaugural products are a pair of slim, black jeans
with a historic moniker and an urbane leather journal that begs to
travel.
